The finales of the group stage continue with the teams in Group D, E and F in action on Matchday 15 – Thursday, 25 June – with eight teams still carrying hopes, however big or small, of securing a ticket to the Round of 32, alongside two who have already qualified, and two whose dreams are already over.
Co-hosts USA have already secured passage to the Round of 32 as winners of Group D ahead of their meeting with eliminated Türkiye, while the winner between Paraguay and Australia will also secure qualification as runners-up, with the Socceroos holding an important edge on goal difference.
Four-times winners Germany are already through to the knockouts as group winners and meet an Ecuador team still trying to find their first goal in the tournament in Group E. The South Americans must achieve victory if they are to stay alive. Curaçao won over the hearts of many neutrals with their Eloy Room-inspired 0-0 draw against Ecuador, and now square off with Côte d'Ivoire, who will progress with at least a draw.
The race for the top spot in Group F is still in doubt, with Japan ready to joust with Sweden. Each side still has work to do to reach the Round of 32, yet the Samurai Blue will especially be feeling confident after their. Meanwhile, a Netherlands side that has found its scoring stride with seven goals in two games will look to keep things rolling against already-eliminated Tunisia.
Yet what is guaranteed are chewed fingernails and rising pulses far and wide as the fate of these teams gets sealed. For a full breakdown of the permutations, click on 'Routes to the final' below:
