Ecuador and Venezuela reach Play-Off Tournament

CONMEBOL qualification for the FIFA Women's World Cup has come to a close

Ecuador and Venezuela secure spots in the FIFA Play-Off Tournament

Colombia, having already booked their passage to Brazil, were crowned Women's Nations League champions

With Colombia and Argentina having secured automatic passage to the last week, the two CONMEBOL participants in the Play-Off Tournament are now known, with Ecuador and Venezuela securing those tickets on the final day of qualification.

Colombia were also crowned champions of the inaugural CONMEBOL Women's Nations League after defeating Paraguay 4-3 on the final day, in a clash that was settled in the closing minutes.

The first stage of the Play-Off Tournament will take place in November and December 2026 at a centralised venue. Brazil, meanwhile, are guaranteed a spot as the host nation.

During the ninth round of qualifiers, La Albiceleste also got the job done, winning with a dramatic last-gasp goal against Ecuador. Elsewhere, Venezuela drew away against Uruguay, and Peru secured a big home win over Venezuela.

Paraguay goals: Dulce Maria Quintana (5), Claudia Martinez (9), Lice Chamorro (45+1) Colombia goals: Ana Maria Guzman (8, 89), Marcela Restrepo (45), Linda Caicedo (61)

A thrilling match unfolded at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium, where Colombia clinched the title in a high-scoring encounter. In the first half, Paraguay took the lead with goals from Dulce Maria Quintana, Claudia Martinez, and Lice Chamorro, while Ana Maria Guzman and Marcela Restrepo pulled goals back for La Tricolor.

In the second half, Linda Caicedo pulled Colombia level, and just as a draw seemed likely, Guzman struck again to score the winning goal that secured the South American giants the regional title.

Peru goals: Alessia Garcia (24), Luz Campoverde (57), Grace Cagnina (62), Sandra Arevalo (83)

Peru may have collected an emphatic, final-day win but ultimately they fell just short of reaching the Play-Off Tournament on goal difference. Second-half strikes from Luz Campoverde, Grace Cagnina, and Sandra Arevalo built on the first half established by Alessia Garcia in Callao.

Uruguay goal: Pamela Gonzalez (52) Venezuela goal: Deyna Castellanos (59)

La Vinotinto put in a strong away performance at the historic Estadio Centenario, securing a point that proved decisive in clinching their spot in the Play-Off Tournament. Pamela Gonzalez had put Uruguay ahead, but Deyna Castellanos — Venzeuela's star player — responded immediately to level the score and seal a draw worth its weight in gold.

Argentina goal: Florencia Bonsegundo (90+6)

Argentina delivered one of the day's most dramatic moments by defeating Ecuador away from home with a last-gasp goal from Florencia Bonsegundo, in the final minute of stoppage time. La Albiceleste — having already secured a direct berth to the Women's World Cup — needed Colombia to fail to win in order to claim the Nations League title, but La Tricolor's victory over Paraguay dashed Argentina's hopes.
