Two weeks after began, we have reached the decisive stage of the group phase. For the teams in Groups A, B and C, the definitive standings will be decided on Matchday 14 – Wednesday, 24 June – with 10 teams still carrying hopes, however big or small, of securing a ticket to the Round of 32.
In Group A co-hosts Mexico have already gained qualification in first place ahead of their meeting with Czechia, while Haiti have been eliminated in Group C with Morocco still to play, but otherwise there is nothing set in stone.
Five-times winners Brazil, as always, will draw plenty of attention as they conclude their Group C programme against Scotland in a repeat of the 1998 Opening Match. All across Canada, meanwhile, fans will be hoping Jesse Marsch’s co-hosts can hold on to top spot in Group B in their match against Switzerland.
The question marks are multiple and that's before mentioning the other sides still in the mix: South Africa, Korea Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar. Yet what is guaranteed are chewed fingernails and rising pulses far and wide as the fate of these teams gets sealed. For a full breakdown of the permutations, click on 'Routes to the final' below:
