2026 World Cup Odds: Where Does Canada Stand Heading Into Matchday 3?

Canada has finally done it.

Les Rouges earned their first men’s FIFA World Cup victory in the nation’s history with a dominant 6-0 win over Qatar on Thursday.

Cyle Larin opened the scoring in the 16th minute with his second goal of the tournament before Jonathan David took over.

The star striker scored twice in 19 minutes to send Canada into halftime with a commanding 3-0 lead.

After Qatar picked up its second red card of the match early in the second half, David wasn’t finished.

David completed his hat trick in stoppage time, becoming the first Canadian — male or female — to record a World Cup hat trick.

Canada's six-goal win also matched the largest margin of victory ever by a host nation and was the first World Cup win by a host nation of six goals or more since 1978.

Canada now sits atop Group B on goal difference after two matches.

Both Canada and Switzerland have four points, setting up a massive group-deciding showdown Wednesday at BC Place Vancouver.

Following its historic victory, Canada has moved from 250-1 to 200-1 to win the World Cup, via FanDuel Sportsbook.

It has also moved from +160 to -155 to win Group B.

Canada would clinch Group B with a win or draw against Switzerland.

Here are the updated odds for how Canada will fare in this year's tournament as of June 23.

While the Canadians ended a 36-year-long drought with their appearance in 2022, it was short-lived, as they got ousted in the group stage with a record of 0-0-3.

However, the momentum continues to build for a Canadian side that turned heads with its fourth-place finish at the 2024 Copa América.

Now, after securing the country’s first-ever men’s World Cup win, Les Rouges have a realistic chance to win Group B and make a deep run in the tournament.

A win or draw against Switzerland would secure first place in the group for Canada.

A loss would likely leave Canada advancing to the knockout stage as the group runner-up.
