This was the first edition that OFC received a direct qualification berth, and the All Whites secured that ticket by beating Fiji and New Caledonia in the final round of qualifiers. New Zealand are the only Oceania representative at World Cup 2026.

The last time Mexico hosted a World Cup (1986), Belgium finished fourth, falling in the semi-final against Diego Maradona's Argentina.

Iran are aiming to qualify for the knockout rounds of the World Cup for the first time. Team Melli have defeated USA, Morocco, and Wales in past tournaments but never made it out of the group.

The All Whites famously drew with reigning World Cup champions Italy in 2010. Despite being eliminated in the group stage, they went home as the only undefeated nation at the World Cup.

If Chris Wood features in any of New Zealand's matches in North America he will become the All Whites' record World Cup appearance maker.

Should one of these sides top the group, they would meet a third-place team from Group A, E, H, I or J at Seattle Stadium on 1 July. The group runner-up would meet the Group D runner-up at Dallas Stadium on 3 July, while the third-place finisher could potentially face the winner of Group B or I.
