The veteran duo of Ronaldo and Modric, the former featuring in a record sixth World Cup and the latter about to collect a staggering 201st cap, meet in Toronto with Portugal and Croatia having finished as runners-up in Groups K and L respectively.
The winners of that clash will be up against the victors of the first game of the day, in which teenage sensation Yamal and his Spain team-mates will take on European rivals Austria in Los Angeles. La Roja won Group H to reach this point, while Ralf Rangnick's side were runners-up in Group J.
Thursday's final fixture sees Switzerland, who topped Group B ahead of co-hosts Canada, meet Algeria - who qualified from Group J in third place amid high drama - at the eye-catching BC Place Vancouver. The winners of that contest will tackle either Colombia or Ghana in the Round of 16.
