Eighteen-year-old Venezuelan youth player Yimvert Berroteran has been confirmed as one of the victims of the devastating earthquakes that left at least 920 people dead, according to official reports.
The two earthquakes, which struck northern Venezuela, measured 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale. “Today, Venezuelan football bids a deeply sorrowful farewell to a young man who represented our country’s colours with pride, commitment and love,” the Venezuelan Football Federation posted on its social media accounts.
"His passing has plunged the entire Vinotinto family into mourning and leaves an indelible mark on all those who shared experiences with him both on and off the pitch."
The Federation added: “We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, teammates, coaching staff and loved ones at this time of profound sadness. Yimvert, your light will continue to shine in every Vinotinto heartbeat. May your soul rest in peace.” A product of Universidad Central de Venezuela FC, Berroteran made his first division debut this year. With the Venezuelan national team, he played more than ten matches at Under-17 level and was called up on several occasions to the Under-20s. He also featured at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025™. His club also expressed its condolences: “You were a warrior, Yimvert. You will always be remembered.”
