To sum up the spirit driving the team right now, the American players have embraced a concept that is as simple as it is complicated to put into practice: one big family.
The celebration following the confirmation of Alex Freeman’s goal, their second of the day, showed everyone the unity of Mauricio Pochettino’s team: everyone on the field hugging Freeman, even those on the bench.
It’s not easy to achieve this kind of team chemistry, and Pochettino has worked hard to get to this point.

Folarin Balogun was once again instrumental to USA’s performance. While he didn’t score, he did exactly what Pochettino asked of him: press high, disrupt Australia’s play, and cause problems in their attacking third.
The Monaco forward echoed the sentiment expressed by his team-mates. “It was a great performance by us,” said Balogun. "We’re aware of our strengths, and the fans are helping us believe in what we’re doing. The stadium was fantastic today — it gave us extra motivation to play well. We’re a family; we’re brothers, and we’re happy for one another.”
As if that weren’t enough, Sergino Dest also emphasized the importance of team spirit: “We’re happy to have qualified for the knockout stage. It’s fantastic, but now we have our final group stage match against Türkiye to secure first place. Above all, it’s great to see how we’ve earned these two victories — all of us united. We help each other out, and I think that’s the most important thing for us. We’re showing everyone what we’re capable of.”
Afterwards, Pochettino emphasized his delight at the team’s second consecutive victory in this World Cup: “We controlled the game exactly as we wanted to. The team truly believes in what it’s doing. Its ability to adapt to the demands of the game is incredible. I can only be happy with how my team is working. We must continue to believe that we can win — all together — building our journey every day through hard work, discipline, and enjoyment."
The Argentinian tactician also spoke about the spectacular welcome and incredible support from Seattle: “Even though I’m not American, I was moved after the game. The stadium and the fans were fantastic. The players also felt a special connection with the crowd. That makes us proud. To achieve results, we need the support of our fans.”
