Concacaf teams reaching new heights in 2026

The group stage of the has concluded, and it produced unprecedented success for the six teams hailing from the Concacaf region.

waded into uncharted waters in many ways. Not only did the Canadians earn their first World Cup point in their opening 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina, but they backed that up with a landmark first global finals victory in a 6-0 romp over Qatar, qualifying for the knockout round for the first time in three World Cup appearances.

On an individual level, striker Jonathan David smashed the Canada World Cup player records, and did it in just one match as he surpassed Alphonso Davies for the most goals for a Canada player with his hat-trick against the AFC side. That also made him the first player to score a hat-trick on home soil since Geoff Hurst for England in 1966. Jesse Marsch’s men finished Group B with eight goals, exceeding their Qatar 2022 total by six.

have a long and storied history in the World Cup, but never before had they emerged victorious from three group-stage matches. They have enjoyed unbeaten campaigns before in the first phase, but their nine-point haul represents a new milestone.

Adding to that achievement is the fact that all three victories were clean sheets, just the second time ever El Tricolor completed the group stage without conceding.

In a similar vein, thrilled their supporters with two wins to start the tournament for the first time since the inaugural global finals in 1930 in Uruguay. That USA team claimed a first-place finish in Group 4 among three teams, while Mauricio Pochettino’s present-day squad topped a four-team section and scored a team-record eight goals for a group stage.

On an individual level, Folarin Balogun etched his name into the history books with the first multiple-goal game for a USA player in a World Cup since Bert Patenaude in 1930.

The smallest nation ever to qualify for a World Cup, captured the hearts of many neutrals with their displays in Group E. There was a first World Cup goal, scored by Livano Comenencia in the opening 7-1 loss to Germany, but the Blue Wave hero of the tournament was goalkeeper Eloy Room.

In the Caribbean side’s second match against Ecuador, a 0-0 draw, the veteran shot-stopper made an , equalling Tim Howard’s all-time mark set at Brazil 2014. It also earned Curaçao a first World Cup point.

appeared in their first World Cup since 1974 and while they were unable to muster a positive result in their three matches, they wowed audiences in Atlanta Stadium with two goals against Qatar 2022 semi-finalists Morocco in a 4-2 defeat.

An exquisite backheel from Lenny Joseph forced Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou into an early own goal, but the highlight was Wilson Isidor’s titanic blast from outside the area, which will certainly be in the conversation for the when the finals end.

And while completed their campaign without a goal or a result, they were fierce opposition in all three contests. Ghana required a late goal to sink the Canaleros 1-0, while Croatia edged them by the same scoreline, followed by a valiant effort in a 2-0 loss to England.

Still, history was made as attacking winger Cristian Martinez pocketed Michelob Ultra Superior Player Of The Match honors, a first for Panama in any World Cup match.

The three co-hosts reaching the knockouts matches the feat achieved by Costa Rica, Mexico and USA from Brazil 2014, and no doubt that trio will be aiming to lift Concacaf even higher in the business end of the tournament.
