Hungary underscored their status as the scorching title favourites at the fifth global finals by dismantling Korea Republic 9-0 in their Zurich opener. Peter Palotas and Ferenc Puskas bagged braces, while Sandor Kocsis hit a hat-trick. Yugoslavia thrashed Zaire by the same score in Gelsenkirchen 20 years later, Dragan Dzajic and Dusan Bajevic starring. Hungary then hammered El Salvador 10-1 in Elche in 1982, with Laszlo Kiss scoring a historic hat-trick from the bench.
