Dembélé Arrives: The reigning Ballon d'Or winner made his presence felt on Friday, solidifying why France is the favorite to win it all.
Dembélé's first-half hat trick was the second-quickest hat trick in tournament history, accomplishing the feat in just 32 minutes.
Austria's Erich Probst did it in 24 minutes way back in the 1954 World Cup.
Dembélé is the third player to score a hat-trick for France at a men's World Cup, after Just Fontaine (twice in 1958) and Kylian Mbappé (once in 2022).
History Made: With his hat trick against Algeria, Messi tied Miroslav Klose for the most goals in men's World Cup history with 16, while also setting the record as the oldest player (38) to record a hat trick, passing Cristiano Ronaldo.
Then, in Argentina's second game against Austria, Messi scored twice to put some space between himself and Klose.
Mbappé, with his offensive performance so far this tournament, now has 16 career World Cup goals, tying Klose for the second-most in men’s World Cup history.
