2026 World Cup Golden Boot: Jonathan David Surges Up Oddsboard After Hat Trick

Two hat tricks in three days?

The Golden Boot odds seem to be changing every minute.

After Lionel Messi's first career World Cup hat trick on Tuesday night, Jonathan David replicated that performance with a hat trick of his own in Canada's 6-0 win over Qatar.

David became the first Canadian man or woman to record a hat trick in a World Cup match.

He also became just the second CONCACAF player to score a hat trick in a men's World Cup match, joining Bert Patenaude (1930, vs.

As a result, David has surged up the Golden Boot oddsboard.

Prior to his hat trick, he was either unlisted across major sportsbooks or priced as a massive underdog at over 100-1.

He is now +1800 to win the award.

Through the first eight days of the tournament, both Messi and David have three goals, while Mbappé, Kane and Haaland headline the group of nine players with two goals.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot race is already shaping up to be historic.

Let's dive into the updated odds at FanDuel Sportsbook as of June 18.

With his first career World Cup hat trick, Messi tied Miroslav Klose for the most goals in men's World Cup history with 16, while also setting the record as the oldest player (38) to record a hat trick, passing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Not to be outdone, Mbappé reminded everyone why he entered the tournament as the betting favorite.

The French superstar scored twice in his World Cup opener, as he became France's new all-time leader in goals with 58.

Erling Haaland also added two goals in his World Cup debut.

If Tuesday's theatrics weren't enough, Harry Kane got himself into the action with a brace of his own in England's 4-2 win over Croatia on Wednesday.

With his performance, Kane recorded his third career multi-goal game in a World Cup match, and tied Gary Lineker for the most goals in the World Cup by an England player (10).

Kane is now up to 81 goals for his international career, becoming the tenth man ever to score 80+ international goals, and just the fifth European to do so.

After all the chaos of the last few days, Mbappé remains the slight favored at +300, while Messi and Kane (both +350) are right on his heels.
